This work is your goal discuss relations between the Brotherhood of Santa Casa de Misericórdiawith the administration of the Province of Maranhão, as the policy of dispute for the construction andmaintenance of cemeteries among the religious brotherhoods of the city of St. Louis between the years 1830 and1870. Period of wider availability of a medical discourse hygienist imported from Europe, which had as maintarget for development and cleaning of areas of cities, is setting up a major paradigms of medical and politicalauthorities of the Brazilian Empire.
